Trinidad and Tobago captain who set the record for the most Netball World Cup appearances by any player in history, competing in six consecutive tournaments.
Rhonda Shervonne John-Davis was born on 28 November 1978 in Trinidad and Tobago. A versatile centre, wing attack and goal attack, she represented her country across six consecutive Netball World Cups from 1999 to 2019 — a record for the most tournament appearances by any individual player in the sport's history, later recognised by Guinness World Records before being matched by others in 2023. John-Davis captained Trinidad and Tobago's Calypso Girls, the only nation outside Australia and New Zealand ever to win a World Championship, shared with those two countries in 1979. Though her own playing career came well after that golden generation, she became the team's most experienced and capped player, accumulating over 170 international appearances and guiding the side through a period of rebuilding, including leading preparation camps in Wales ahead of the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool. Domestically, John-Davis was a dominant figure in Trinidad and Tobago's All Sectors Netball League, winning MVP awards in 2017 and 2018. She also competed internationally in basketball for Trinidad and Tobago. She retired from international netball following the 2019 World Cup and moved into coaching, taking charge of the country's Under-21 team and continuing to mentor the next generation of Trinidadian netballers.
