Australian shooter who overcame a serious ACL injury to become a premiership winner and Grand Final MVP with the Melbourne Vixens.
Kiera Austin was born on 26 August 1997 in Sydney and began her netball journey with the North Ryde Spirits junior club. She won silver with Australia's under-21 team at the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Gaborone, Botswana, before making her Suncorp Super Netball debut for the newly formed Giants Netball in 2018. Austin's breakout came in 2020, when she was named Giants Netball's Most Valuable Player at just 23, the youngest recipient in club history, and was selected in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year at goal attack. She made her Australian Diamonds debut in the Constellation Cup in March 2021, but ruptured her ACL in round one of that year's domestic season, undergoing a gruelling ten-month rehabilitation that ruled her out for the year. Austin returned in 2022 with the Melbourne Vixens, making her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham as part of the Australian team that won the country's 1000th Olympic-cycle gold medal. She was awarded the 2024 Sharelle McMahon Medal as the Vixens' best and fairest player, and helped the club win the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball premiership over West Coast Fever, being named Grand Final Player of the Match after scoring 23 goals. Away from netball, Austin is studying a Master's in Genomics and Health and is an advocate for athlete education around fertility and family planning.
