Australian goal shooter and former national captain, famous for scoring the winning goal in extra time to clinch the 2011 World Cup title.
Caitlin Bassett was born on 23 May 1988 in Perth, Western Australia. She progressed through the state's netball pathway with Southside Demons and the Perth Orioles before making her breakthrough with West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championship, and her Australian Diamonds debut in 2008. Bassett's signature moment came at the 2011 World Netball Championships in Singapore: brought on as a substitute at half-time in the final against New Zealand, she shot at 90% accuracy and scored the winning goal in extra time to seal a 58–57 victory. She added a second World Cup gold in 2015, the year she also won the Liz Ellis Diamond as the first shooter to claim the award and was voted World's Best Netballer. She captained Australia from 2017 to 2021, winning Commonwealth Games gold in 2014 and leading the Diamonds to an agonisingly close silver at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, lost to England after the final buzzer. Domestically, Bassett spent 12 years with West Coast Fever (2005–2016), becoming just the fifth Diamond to reach 100 international caps, before joining the inaugural Sunshine Coast Lightning side and winning back-to-back Super Netball premierships in 2017 and 2018, earning Player of the Match in the 2018 Grand Final. She later played for Giants Netball and New Zealand's Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic before retiring in February 2022, finishing with over 100 Test caps and 2,863 international goals at 90% accuracy. She now works as a netball broadcaster for Fox Sports.
