Australian defender known as a lockdown 'tagger' who has won World Cup and Commonwealth Games gold and served as president of the Australian Netball Players Association.

Joanna Weston was born on 14 February 1994 and grew up on a nut farm in country Victoria before moving to Melbourne, where a natural height advantage steered her from tennis toward netball. After two years at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, she joined the Melbourne Vixens in 2014, going on to succeed Bianca Chatfield in the goal defence role and win the club's Rookie of the Year award in 2015. Weston made her Australian debut in the 2015 Constellation Cup and earned over 75 Test caps, winning silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 World Cup before completing the set with gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 World Cup. Renowned for her uncompromising 'shut down' defensive role, quick closing speed and knack for intercepts, she was named the Suncorp Super Netball's Goal Defender of the Year and Player of the Finals in 2017, and has won two premierships with the Vixens, in 2020 and 2025 (the latter capped by a Sharelle McMahon Medal as the club's best and fairest). Off the court, Weston holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and completed a Master of Communication at Deakin University, having worked at Deloitte earlier in her career. She has long served as president of the Australian Netball Players' Association, advocating for improved player pay and conditions, including a revenue-share component in the players' collective agreement.
