English goal shooter who reinvented the tall-shooter role, winning 117 caps and playing a key part in England's historic 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Jo Harten was born on 21 March 1989 in Harlow, Essex. Introduced to netball by her mother after trying football, tennis and hockey, she graduated from Loughborough University in 2011 and made her senior England debut against Barbados at the 2007 World Cup. Harten went on to represent England at four World Cups (2007, 2011, 2015, 2019) and four Commonwealth Games (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022), winning bronze medals at three World Cups and captaining England's Fast5 side. She was a prominent member of the England squad that beat Australia to win the historic first Commonwealth Games gold on the Gold Coast in 2018, and made her 100th senior appearance against Uganda at the 2019 World Cup. She retired from international netball in April 2023 with 117 caps, having been awarded the MBE in 2020 and inducted into the England Netball Hall of Fame. Domestically, Harten captained Loughborough Lightning from 2009 before moving abroad, playing for Canterbury Tactix and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in New Zealand, and joining Giants Netball as a foundation player for the launch of Australia's Super Netball league in 2017, becoming club captain in 2020. Known for reinventing the tall-shooter role with her ability to hold, move and feed as well as score, she remains one of the sport's most respected leaders and continues to play for Giants Netball.
