Australian shooter who won the 2024 Liz Ellis Diamond in her first season at the Melbourne Vixens, part of a three-club Super Netball premiership collection.
Sophie Muriel Garbin was born on 6 April 1997 in Kambalda, Western Australia, moving to Perth at 13 and choosing netball over basketball. She progressed through the WAIS pathway to the Western Sting, winning the Australian Netball League title and Grand Final MVP in 2017 while breaking the league's goal-scoring record, before moving to Sydney to join the NSW Swifts in 2018. Garbin won back-to-back Suncorp Super Netball premierships with the Swifts in 2019 and 2021, and made her Australian Diamonds debut in 2021 during the Constellation Cup, scoring the winning goal in extra time in the deciding match. She moved to the Collingwood Magpies in 2022, but the club folded its netball team after the 2023 season, having represented Australia at the 2023 World Cup, which the Diamonds won. Garbin signed with the Melbourne Vixens for 2024, finally settling into her preferred goal shooter role, and enjoyed a breakout year: she broke two club scoring records, won the 2024 Liz Ellis Diamond as Australian netball's best player and International Player of the Year in the same season, becoming only the seventh Diamond in a decade to win both awards. She helped the Vixens win the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball premiership in a one-goal grand final, was named Player of the Finals, and won the 2026 Sharelle McMahon Medal as the club's most valuable player.
