Wing Defence

Jamaican defender rated among the best wing defences in world netball, a two-time Super Netball premiership winner and World Cup bronze medallist with the Sunshine Girls.

Latanya Wilson grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, one of nine children, before making her senior debut for the Jamaican Sunshine Girls in January 2020. She moved to Australia's Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2021 after a season in England's Netball Super League, initially working her way up from top-up player before establishing herself as one of the league's premier defenders. Wilson formed one of Super Netball's most feared defensive partnerships alongside fellow Jamaican Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, helping Adelaide Thunderbirds win back-to-back premierships in 2024 and a third title in 2026. She was named in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year in wing defence in 2023 and in goal defence in 2025, when she led the league in both intercepts (40) and deflections (95), and was voted the Adelaide University Club Champion for three consecutive seasons from 2024 to 2026. Internationally, Wilson was part of the Jamaican Sunshine Girls squad that won bronze at the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town, and has become a key member of Jamaica's celebrated 'dance and defend' generation of Super Netball imports alongside Sterling-Humphrey. Signed to Adelaide Thunderbirds on a long-term deal through 2026, she has spoken about growing in confidence and finding her voice as a leader within a netball culture that traditionally discouraged players from speaking up.
