The redhead who terrorised Premier League defences for Arsenal across the Invincibles era — Freddie Ljungberg's combination of intelligent off-the-ball running, clinical finishing from midfield positions and boundless energy made him one of Arsène Wenger's most effective players during Arsenal's most successful period. Two Premier League titles and two FA Cups, including a PFA Team of the Year selection and the Invincibles's unbeaten 2003-04 season, confirmed his quality in the finest domestic side English football has produced in the Premier League era. His subsequent commercial profile — appearing in Calvin Klein campaigns — made him one of football's most recognised faces beyond the sport itself
Freddie Ljungberg was born in Vittsjö, Sweden on 16 April 1977. Halmstad gave him his debut before Arsenal paid £3 million in 1998. His seven seasons at Highbury produced two Premier League titles (2002, 2004) and three FA Cups. His trademark burst from midfield — timed to perfection, arriving late in the box — produced 72 goals in 216 Arsenal appearances. He was part of the unbeaten Invincibles squad in 2003-04. His distinctive red hair and athletic physique made him a global face of the Calvin Klein underwear campaign. He moved to West Ham, Celtic, Juventus, Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire before retirement. He earned 75 caps for Sweden and appeared at three major tournaments. He later coached Arsenal's under-23 side and served as interim manager of the first team in 2019.
