Born in Ontario, California in 1958, Anthony Nelson Muñoz grew up in a working-class family and developed his athletic prowess at Chaffey High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. His exceptional size and agility earned him a scholarship to the University of Southern California, where he played under head coach John Robinson. Despite suffering a serious knee injury that limited his college playing time, Muñoz's potential remained evident to NFL scouts. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Muñoz with the third overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft, a decision that would prove transformative for the franchise. He immediately established himself as an elite offensive tackle, combining rare athleticism with technical precision. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Muñoz anchored the Bengals' offensive line, protecting quarterbacks Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason during the team's most successful era.
