Tony Alexander Adams was born in Romford, Essex on 10 October 1966. A one-club man, he spent his entire 22-year career at Arsenal, making 672 appearances. He became club captain at just 21 and led Arsenal to four league titles (1989, 1991, 1998, 2002), three FA Cups, two League Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994. His iconic celebration — arms outstretched after scoring against Everton to clinch the 1998 title — is one of the Premier League's defining images. He earned 66 England caps and captained his country. Off the pitch, he bravely confronted his battle with alcoholism, founding the Sporting Chance Clinic to help other athletes with addiction. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
