He came through Barcelona's La Masia academy before joining Bayern Munich in 2013, where he won seven consecutive Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020. He joined Liverpool in 2020 for £20 million and his ability to control the tempo of a match was extraordinary. Injuries limited his impact, but when fit, he was mesmerising. He won the FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool. He earned 46 caps for Spain. His father Mazinho won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994.
