Canadian ice hockey defenseman known for his powerful shot and physical play, won Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014, and served as captain.
Shea Weber was born in Sicamous, British Columbia in 1985. Nashville Predators selected him 49th overall in the 2003 NHL Draft. His career produced 230 goals and 410 assists for 640 career points. He won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman in 2017. He was selected to six All-Star games. He won Olympic gold with Canada in 2010 and 2014. He was one of the most physically imposing defencemen of the modern era — his slap shot was measured at 108.1 mph and his physical presence defending against opposing forwards was described as genuinely intimidating. He was traded from Nashville to Montreal in a blockbuster swap for P.K. Subban in 2016 — one of the most discussed trades of the decade given both players' status. He became the Canadiens' captain. Injuries — particularly foot conditions — limited his final seasons and he retired in 2022 without the championship his ability merited. He is the most decorated player in Nashville Predators franchise history.
He is famous for having one of the hardest recorded shots in NHL history and serving as captain for both the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens.
How They Played
Weber was known for having one of the hardest shots in NHL history, with his slap shot regularly exceeding 100 mph. He combined exceptional offensive ability from the blue line with strong defensive positioning and physical play. His leadership qualities and two-way game made him one of the most complete defensemen of his era.
Lasting Impact
Weber's booming shot and defensive prowess established him as one of the elite defensemen of the 2010s and a respected leader throughout the NHL.
