Nicholas Butt was born in Gorton, Manchester on 21 January 1975. A product of Manchester United's famous youth academy alongside Beckham, Scholes, and the Neville brothers, Butt was a tenacious central midfielder who provided energy and steel. He made 387 appearances for United, winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League in 1999. Pelé named him as one of the 125 greatest living footballers in 2004. He moved to Newcastle United in 2004, spending five seasons at St James' Park before a brief spell in China with South China and retirement. He earned 39 England caps and was part of the 2002 World Cup squad, where he impressed in midfield.
