Marcos Alonso Mendoza was born in Madrid, Spain on 28 December 1990. The grandson of legendary Real Madrid player Marcos Alonso, he began at Real Madrid's academy before spells at Bolton, Fiorentina and Sunderland. He joined Chelsea in 2016 for £24 million and excelled as a left wing-back in Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation. His powerful left foot and ability to score goals from the wing-back position were remarkable. He made 212 appearances and scored 29 goals for Chelsea, winning the Premier League in 2017, the FA Cup in 2018 and the Europa League in 2019. He earned 3 caps for Spain. He later joined Barcelona.
