American softball pitcher and third baseman, three-time Olympic gold medalist and considered one of the greatest players in softball history
Lisa Fernandez was born in Long Beach, California in 1971. She won Olympic gold medals at Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 as a pitcher and third baseman — one of only three players to appear on all three gold medal-winning USA teams. She posted a career batting average above .300 and a pitching record of near-perfect efficiency, combining power hitting with elite pitching across a 20-year career. She won the ASA Player of the Year award three times and was a three-time All-American at UCLA. She pitched a perfect game in the 2003 World Softball Championship against Australia. She was inducted into the USA Softball Hall of Fame and is considered the greatest two-way softball player in the sport's history.
