His riding style — smooth, late-braking entries, exceptional corner exits — was technically the most efficient of his era, contrasting with the aggressive style of Valentino Rossi and the late-entry style of Marc Márquez. He won MotoGP championships with Yamaha (2010, 2012, 2015) and one race victory with Ducati (2018) and Honda — competing competitively for every major manufacturer. He retired after the 2019 season.
