Spain's World Cup-winning captain and the most capped Spanish player ever — a penalty-saving colossus at Real Madrid and international level.

Iker Casillas Fernández was born in Móstoles, Madrid in 1981 and joined Real Madrid's academy at nine, making his La Liga debut at 16. He spent 16 years as the club's first-choice goalkeeper (1999–2015), making 725 appearances, winning 3 Champions Leagues and 5 La Liga titles. He moved to Porto (2015–2019) where he suffered a heart attack during training in May 2019 that ended his career. He earned 167 Spain caps — the most-capped goalkeeper in Spanish history — winning the World Cup (2010) and two European Championships (2008, 2012) — the only Spanish goalkeeper to achieve this. He kept 502 career clean sheets in 1,072 professional appearances. He made 150 Champions League appearances — the all-time record. He was named best goalkeeper in the world five times. His save from Arjen Robben in the 2010 World Cup final — one-on-one in extra time — is the most celebrated goalkeeping moment in tournament history. He was FIFA World Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008 and 2012. He remains the most decorated Spanish footballer in history.
