Francesco Totti was born in Rome in 1976 and grew up a Roma supporter — spending his entire 25-year professional career at the club (1992–2017). He made 786 appearances scoring 307 goals and providing 302 assists — the most combined output by any player in a single club's history in Serie A. He scored 64 direct free-kicks in Serie A — a record. He earned 58 Italy caps scoring 9 goals and won the 2006 World Cup in Germany, scoring the winning penalty in the quarter-final against Australia. He was Serie A Player of the Year twice and FIFPro World XI three times. His top speed of 29.8 km/h and 9.7 km per game reflect a player whose genius was positional rather than athletic. He won only 1 Serie A title (2001) but his loyalty made him the most beloved one-club man in Italian football history. He scored 20+ league goals at 35, becoming Serie A's oldest scorer of 20 in a season. He scored his final Roma goal aged 40 years and 95 days — the oldest outfield player to score in Serie A since WWII. He retired in May 2017 at 40.
