Born in Mariënberg, Netherlands, on 21 April 1986, Christian Kist began competing in the BDO in 2009. He first drew attention in 2011, reaching the last 16 of the World Masters, where he narrowly lost to Tony West in a deciding leg despite having five match darts to win. Kist's career-defining moment came at the 2012 BDO World Championship, which he entered via the International Playoffs as an unheralded qualifier. He beat compatriot Jan Dekker, Belgium's Geert De Vos, and friend Alan Norris to reach the semi-finals, where he recovered from 5-3 down against two-time champion Ted Hankey, who missed a dart at bullseye to win the match, allowing Kist to force and win a decider. In the final, he beat Tony O'Shea 7-5 to become BDO World Champion on his Lakeside debut. Kist struggled to build on the title, losing in the first round in his two subsequent BDO World Championship defences, and switched to the PDC in 2014 after winning a tour card at Q-School. His best PDC results included reaching the World Championship last 32 in 2016 and two Players Championship runner-up finishes. Nicknamed 'The Lipstick', Kist has continued to compete on the PDC circuit intermittently, regaining a tour card in 2025, and remains one of the more surprising world champions in the BDO's history.
