Marco Odermatt was born on 8 October 1997 in Buochs, Switzerland, and grew up racing under the guidance of his skiing parents. He progressed through Swiss junior ranks with remarkable success, winning an unprecedented five gold medals in five races at the 2018 Junior World Championships in Davos across combined, downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and the team event. Odermatt's senior breakthrough came in the 2021-22 season, when he won the overall and giant slalom World Cup titles before claiming Olympic gold in the giant slalom at the Beijing Games, beating Slovenia's Žan Kranjec by 0.19 seconds. The following season he shattered records, setting a new all-time high of 2,042 points in a single World Cup season to surpass Hermann Maier's 24-year-old mark, while also winning giant slalom and downhill gold at the 2023 World Championships.
