American professional basketball player known for his unique combination of size, shooting ability, and defensive versatility as a center/forward.
Chet Holmgren was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 1 May 2002. There has never been quite a player like Chet Holmgren in NBA history. A 7ft 1in center who weighs just 195lb, his extraordinary mobility, ball-handling, outside shooting and elite shot-blocking ability defy physical logic. He was selected second overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder but missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury. He returned in 2023-24 and was outstanding, averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 39% from three. His ability to switch onto guards, shoot like a wing and block shots like a traditional center makes him perhaps the most versatile defensive player at his size the NBA has ever seen. He made the All-Star team in 2024 and is considered one of the franchise's long-term cornerstones.
Elite shot-blocking ability and unique combination of size and perimeter skills
At 7ft 1in and 195lb, he is the thinnest dominant player in NBA history — yet his shot-blocking, three-point shooting and mobility have made him an All-Star within two seasons of entering the league.
