Suryakumar Yadav was born on 14 September 1990 in Mumbai, India. He made his international debut relatively late in 2021 but made an immediate impact, rising to become the No. 1 ranked T20I batter in the world. Known for his 360-degree strokeplay — hitting scoops, ramps and switches with remarkable consistency — he became one of cricket's most compelling batsmen in the shortest format. He won the ICC T20 World Cup with India in 2024 and scored multiple T20I centuries. He plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Suryakumar captained India to the 2026 T20 World Cup title on home soil, completing a 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad - the ground he said India had specifically targeted for the triumph - as India became the first side to retain the trophy and the first host nation to win it.
