Stacy Nuveman was born in Meridian, Idaho in 1979. She won Olympic gold medals at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and an Olympic silver at Beijing 2008 as the USA's starting catcher across three consecutive Olympic cycles. She was named to the ISF All-World Team and was considered the most technically accomplished catcher the sport had produced — combining exceptional pitch-calling with dangerous power hitting. She played at UCLA and remained one of the more respected figures in USA Softball history for her role anchoring one of the programme's most successful periods. Her blocking, throwing and game management behind the plate set a standard for the position.
