American point guard who won three NBA championships and was known for his clutch performances and leadership during playoff runs throughout his career.

Samuel James Cassell was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1969. Houston Rockets selected him 24th overall in the 1993 NBA Draft. His 15-season career produced 14.9 points and 7.0 assists per game and two All-Star appearances. He won two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets (1994, 1995) — contributing significantly in the 1995 run as a starter. He is one of 11 players to win championships with two different teams in the early part of his career. His most celebrated season came with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2003-04 alongside Kevin Garnett and Latrell Sprewell — he averaged 19.8 points and 7.3 assists, making the All-Star team and leading Minnesota to the Western Conference Finals. His celebration — the big-balls dance — after big shots became one of basketball's most imitated and satirised moments. His clutch shooting in critical moments was his defining characteristic — he made multiple series-deciding shots across his career. He was an assistant coach in the NBA after retirement, working with the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and other franchises.
