His 2008 Finals MVP — won despite being severely injured in Game 1 — is one of basketball's great clutch performances. His nickname "The Truth" was bestowed by Shaquille O'Neal after Pierce scored 42 points against his Lakers — O'Neal said afterwards "I wanted to call him Paul Pierce but now I have to call him The Truth."

His nickname "The Truth" was given to him by Shaquille O'Neal after a 42-point performance — one of basketball's most famous post-game compliments.
