Patrick Jennings OBE was born in Newry, Northern Ireland on 12 June 1945. He started at Watford before joining Tottenham in 1964, where he spent 13 years and made 591 appearances, winning the FA Cup in 1967, two League Cups and the UEFA Cup in 1972. In 1977, in a controversial transfer, he crossed North London to join Arsenal, where he made 327 appearances and won the FA Cup in 1979. He was named FWA Footballer of the Year in 1973 and PFA Player of the Year in 1976. For Northern Ireland, he earned 119 caps over 22 years, playing his final international on his 41st birthday at the 1986 World Cup. His extraordinary longevity, shot-stopping ability and gentle demeanour made him universally respected.
