Mohamed Salah Ghaly was born in Nagrig, Gharbia, Egypt in 1992. He developed at El Mokawloon before Basel signed him, then Chelsea in 2014 — where he made only three Premier League starts before loans to Fiorentina and Roma. Roma signed him permanently for £15 million in 2015 and two outstanding Serie A seasons convinced Liverpool to pay £36.9 million in June 2017. His debut Premier League season produced 32 goals — a record for a 38-game season — earning the PFA Players' Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. He won the Premier League Golden Boot three times. He won the Champions League (2019), Premier League (2020), FA Cup and League Cup (2022). He surpassed Ian Rush as Liverpool's all-time Premier League scorer. He has been named African Footballer of the Year four times. He has earned over 100 Egypt caps and captained the national side. His left foot, movement and finishing have made him the Premier League's most consistent attacking player of the late 2010s and 2020s.
