American former NFL defensive end who played his entire 15-year career with the New York Giants, setting the single-season sack record with 22.5 in 2001.
Michael Anthony Strahan was born in Houston, Texas in 1971 and grew up in Mannheim, Germany where his father was a US Army major. Texas Southern University developed him before the New York Giants selected him in the second round of the 1993 NFL Draft. His 15-season career produced 141.5 sacks — a record he set in 2001 when he broke Lawrence Taylor's single-season mark of 20.5 with 22.5. He won Super Bowl XLII with the Giants following the 2007 season — the team's famous upset of the undefeated New England Patriots. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. He was selected to seven Pro Bowls. After retirement he became one of television's most prominent personalities — co-hosting Live with Kelly and Michael, hosting Good Morning America and Fox NFL Sunday. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
