Michael Carter-Williams was born in Hamilton, Massachusetts in 1991. He attended Syracuse University under coach Jim Boeheim and played two full seasons plus a partial third. He averaged 11.9 points and 7.3 assists per game across his time at Syracuse. He led Syracuse to the 2013 Final Four — the program's deepest tournament run in years. He was the Big East Tournament MVP. He was a consensus All-American in 2013. Philadelphia 76ers selected him 11th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft. His professional career began spectacularly — he won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2014 with exceptional steal and assist totals — before declining as teams adjusted to his limitations. His Syracuse career in Jim Boeheim's 2-3 zone — developing the anticipation and passing angle recognition that produced his early professional statistical peaks — was the technical foundation of his brief professional excellence.
