Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao was born in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines in 1978, one of six children in a family living in extreme poverty, and became the only boxer in history to win world championships in eight different weight divisions — from light flyweight to super welterweight. His professional record of 62 wins (39 by knockout), 8 losses and 2 draws spans 1995 to 2021. He won titles at light flyweight, flyweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight and welterweight — defeating champions in all eight. He won the Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year award three times (2006, 2008, 2009). His speed of hand — measured at faster than any heavyweight — and his relentless pressure from the southpaw stance made him uniquely difficult to prepare against. He defeated Marco Antonio Barrera three times, Juan Manuel Márquez four times, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. His losses to Floyd Mayweather in 2015 — the Fight of the Century — and to Jeff Horn in 2017 bookend his peak years. He served as a Philippine senator while simultaneously competing as an active professional boxer — the only professional athlete to hold elected national office while still fighting.
