Born in Bundaberg, Queensland in 1960, Malcolm John Meninga emerged from humble beginnings to become one of rugby league's most influential figures. Meninga's professional career began in the early 1980s, but it was his move to the Canberra Raiders that truly established his legendary status. Standing 6ft 2in and weighing 17 stone, he possessed a rare combination of devastating power and surprising pace that revolutionized the centre position. His ability to break through defensive lines while maintaining exceptional ball-handling skills made him virtually unstoppable during his peak years. He later played for English club St Helens, demonstrating his talents on the international stage. At representative level, Meninga's achievements remain unparalleled. He captained both Queensland in State of Origin and Australia in international competition, winning four Rugby League World Cups with the Kangaroos. As head coach of the Queensland Maroons, he orchestrated the most dominant period in State of Origin history, guiding the team to eleven consecutive series victories from 2006 to 2018.
