Louis Williams was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1986 and was selected by Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft directly from high school. His 17-season career produced 13.9 points per game and three Sixth Man of the Year awards — the most in NBA history. He scored 14,987 career points — the most ever by a player coming primarily off the bench. His three-point shooting, ability to draw fouls and mid-range creation made him virtually unguardable in short bursts off the bench. He scored 50 or more points in a game on two occasions. His 2018-19 season with the Los Angeles Clippers — 20.4 points per game as a reserve — was one of the finest bench scoring seasons in NBA history. His lifestyle, fashion and personality made him popular well beyond basketball circles. His ability to be the best player on the court for 25 minutes per game while consistently performing in the fourth quarter and overtime established him as the gold standard for the bench scorer role. He retired in 2022 having established himself as the most prolific scorer in NBA history from the reserve position.
