British McLaren driver who won the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, ending Max Verstappen's four-year reign in one of the closest title fights in the sport's history.
Lando Norris was born in Bristol, England in 1999 to a wealthy family — his father Adam Norris made his fortune through a pension fund. He was a prominent karting prodigy before McLaren signed him as a junior driver. He made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2019. His personality — gaming streams on Twitch with hundreds of thousands of viewers, candid social media presence and self-deprecating humour — made him the sport's most digitally engaged driver and drew new audiences to Formula 1. He scored his first F1 race victory at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix — ending a career-long wait that had seen him score multiple fastest laps and podiums without the win. He secured several victories in 2024 as McLaren developed a championship-contending car. He challenged Max Verstappen for the 2024 Drivers' Championship, finishing second. He is one of the youngest multi-race winners in F1 history and the most commercially valuable British driver since Lewis Hamilton's early career. Norris was crowned the 2025 Formula 1 World Champion at the Abu Dhabi season finale on 7 December 2025, finishing third at Yas Marina to edge Max Verstappen by just two points in a three-way title decider that also involved team-mate Oscar Piastri. With seven wins, seven poles, 18 podiums and 423 points across the 24-race season, he became the 35th world champion in the sport's history, Britain's 11th, and McLaren's first since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 - ending Verstappen's four-year reign and completing McLaren's first drivers' and constructors' double since 1998.
