Khalil Rountree Jr.

American light heavyweight known for devastating knockout power, who overcame a difficult early UFC career to challenge Alex Pereira for the undisputed title in 2024 and remain a top contender.

Born in Los Angeles in February 1990, Khalil Rountree Jr. had no athletic or combat sports background growing up; his father, a tour manager for Boyz II Men, was shot and killed in an attempted robbery when Rountree was two. He began training in his twenties for weight loss before discovering a talent for striking. Rountree appeared on The Ultimate Fighter in 2016, losing the light heavyweight final to Andrew Sanchez, and endured a difficult first several years in the UFC, going 4-4 with a no-contest through 2021. He then found his form, launching a five-fight winning streak from September 2021 built on four emphatic knockouts, including a first-round finish of former Glory kickboxing champion Gökhan Saki and a historic oblique-kick stoppage of Modestas Bukauskas. Rountree's breakthrough arrived at UFC 307 in October 2024, when he challenged dominant champion Alex Pereira for the undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship. Though stopped in the fourth round, Rountree won the first two rounds and earned a Fight of the Night bonus, elevating his standing among the division's elite. He rebounded in June 2025 with a five-round decision win over former champion Jamahal Hill in Baku. Rountree suffered a further Fight of the Night loss to Jiří Procházka at UFC 320 in October 2025, before being confirmed for a rematch with former champion Magomed Ankalaev, a bout that could return him to title contention in the light heavyweight division.
