Katie Taylor was born in Bray, County Wicklow in 1986. She is the undisputed lightweight world champion, unifying all four major titles in 2017, and the Olympic gold medallist in women's boxing at London 2012 — the first Olympic women's boxing event. She turned professional in 2016 and her professional record stands at 22 wins from 24 bouts. She unified the lightweight titles against Delfine Persoon in 2019 and defended against Persoon, Christina Linardatou and Natasha Jonas. She fought Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in April 2022 in the first women's boxing main event at the venue — widely regarded as the greatest women's boxing match in history. She was five-time World Amateur Champion (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014) and five-time European Champion. She was named Irish Times Sportswoman of the Year five times. Her commitment and professional standards raised the profile of women's boxing globally.
