Karl Anthony Malone was born in Summerfield, Louisiana in 1963 and attended Louisiana Tech before Utah Jazz selected him 13th overall in the 1985 NBA Draft. His 19-season career produced 36,928 career points — the second-highest total in NBA history behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He won two regular season MVP awards (1997, 1999) and was selected to 14 All-Star games. His partnership with John Stockton running the pick-and-roll for the Utah Jazz is one of basketball's most celebrated long-term combinations — reaching two NBA Finals (1997, 1998), both times losing to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls. He averaged 25.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game across his career. He was named to the NBA 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams. He was selected to the All-NBA First Team 11 times — more than any player not named Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or LeBron James. He won Olympic gold with the Dream Team in 1992 and 1996. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers alongside Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant for his final season but suffered a knee injury in the playoffs. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
