Jon Rahm Rodríguez was born in Barrika, Basque Country, Spain in 1994. He attended Arizona State University where he was the consensus best college golfer in America. He turned professional in 2016. He won the US Open at Torrey Pines in 2021 — the same course where he had received news mid-tournament of a positive COVID-19 test while leading the Memorial Tournament weeks earlier, requiring him to withdraw. He won the Masters in 2023 — the most prestigious title in golf — defending the tradition of wearing his country's colours on the final Sunday. He was ranked world number one for 56 weeks. He signed with the LIV Golf League in December 2023 in a deal worth a reported $600 million over three seasons — one of the most significant defections in the ongoing PGA Tour-LIV conflict.
