Javier Sotomayor is a Cuban high jumper who holds the outdoor world record of 2.45m, set in 1993, which remains the longest-standing track and field world record. A technically superb athlete whose Fosbury Flop technique was perfected to an extraordinary level, Sotomayor's record is considered by many to be the most unbreakable in all of athletics. He was the dominant high jumper of the late 1980s through the 1990s.
