American professional basketball player who starred in the NBA from 1993-2004, known for his scoring ability and versatile forward play.

Jamal Mashburn was born in Harlem, New York in 1972 and attended the University of Kentucky. Dallas Mavericks selected him fourth overall in the 1993 NBA Draft. His 12-season career produced 19.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game along with one All-Star appearance. He averaged 20 or more points per game in four different seasons. His combination of scoring versatility — he could post up, attack the rim, hit mid-range jumpers and shoot from three — made him one of the more complete offensive forwards of his era. He was named one of the 50 greatest players in Charlotte Hornets franchise history. A serious knee injury in 2001 cost him much of the 2001-02 season. He later became a highly successful businessman, owning numerous Outback Steakhouse, Papa John's and other restaurant franchises worth hundreds of millions of dollars, making him one of the wealthiest former NBA players in history through business rather than basketball. He has spoken extensively about financial literacy and business development for athletes. His transition from basketball to business success is one of the most complete post-playing career stories in the sport.
