Gregor Schlierenzauer

Austrian ski jumper who holds the all-time record for individual World Cup wins with 53, alongside two overall World Cup titles and multiple Olympic medals.

Born on 7 January 1990 in Innsbruck, Austria, Gregor Schlierenzauer made his FIS Ski Jumping World Cup debut in 2006 and quickly established himself as one of the most explosive talents the sport had seen. His breakthrough 2008-09 season remains one of the greatest in ski jumping history: he won 13 of the 27 individual events, shattering Janne Ahonen's previous single-season record of 12 wins, and set a new record of 20 podium finishes in a single season. Schlierenzauer won the overall World Cup title twice, in 2008-09 and 2012-13, and captured the Four Hills Tournament twice (2012, 2013) as well as the Nordic Tournament twice (2008, 2009). He was also dominant in ski flying, winning the Ski Flying World Cup overall title on three occasions (2009, 2011, 2013), and set his personal-best jump of 243.5 metres at Vikersund in 2011. Across his career, Schlierenzauer won four Winter Olympic medals, twelve at the Ski Jumping World Championships, and five at the Ski Flying World Championships. His 53 individual World Cup wins remain the all-time record for the sport, well clear of Finland's Matti Nykänen (46) and Poland's Adam Małysz (39), and he also holds the record for the most cumulative World Cup points scored, with 11,906. Schlierenzauer competed at World Cup level from 2006 to 2021, one of the longest careers at the top level in the sport's history. He remains widely regarded as one of the two or three greatest ski jumpers of all time, alongside Nykänen and Małysz.
