Born in King's Lynn, England, on 13 April 1992 to a Yorkshire father and Welsh mother, George North moved to Anglesey at age two and grew up a fluent Welsh speaker. He made his Wales debut against South Africa in November 2010 aged 18, scoring two tries to become the youngest player in his country's history to score on debut, having already impressed for the Scarlets. North toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2013, memorably scoring in the first Test and the series-deciding third Test in Sydney, as well as producing an iconic tackle on Israel Folau. Injuries prevented further Lions Test involvement, but his club career flourished, moving from the Scarlets to Northampton Saints, where he won the English Premiership in 2014, before returning to Wales with the Ospreys in 2018. North became the youngest player to reach 100 caps for Wales in 2021, and played a starring role in Wales's dramatic comeback win over France at the 2023 Six Nations, intercepting a pass to score the match-winning try. He appeared in four Rugby World Cups, a Welsh record, and won four Six Nations Championships across his career. North retired from international rugby in 2024 with 121 caps — the third-most in Welsh history — and 47 tries, second only to Shane Williams among all-time Welsh try-scorers. He signed with French club Provence Rugby following his retirement from Test rugby.
