Freddie Freeman

American professional baseball first baseman, 2020 National League MVP, World Series champion and MVP with Atlanta Braves in 2021.

Born in Fountain Valley, California, Frederick Charles Freeman developed his baseball skills in Orange County before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2007 MLB Draft. The son of a Canadian mother and American father, Freeman represented Canada in international competition early in his career, including the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Freeman made his MLB debut with Atlanta in 2010 and quickly established himself as one of baseball's premier first basemen. He became the Braves' everyday starter in 2011 and consistently produced elite offensive numbers throughout the 2010s. His breakout season came in 2013 when he finished eighth in National League MVP voting. Freeman earned five All-Star selections with Atlanta and won a Gold Glove Award in 2018 for his defensive excellence. His tenure with the Braves culminated in the franchise's first World Series championship since 1995 in 2021. Following the 2021 season, Freeman signed a six-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent. His 2020 campaign stands as his statistical peak, when he won the National League MVP Award while leading Atlanta to the NL Championship Series. Freeman has maintained a career batting average above .290 and reached the 300-home run milestone during his career. His 2024 postseason performance included a historic walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series, helping deliver the Dodgers their second championship in five years. Freeman's combination of consistent offensive production, defensive reliability, and clutch hitting has established him among the elite first basemen of his generation. His ability to perform in high-pressure situations, demonstrated across multiple playoff appearances with both Atlanta and Los Angeles, distinguishes his career.
