The architect of Total Football — three-time Ballon d'Or winner whose influence on the modern game is immeasurable.

Johan Cruyff was the most influential figure in football's tactical evolution. As player and later manager, he developed Total Football — a fluid system in which any outfield player could assume any position — that changed the way the game was played forever. His 14-year trophy haul with Ajax and FC Barcelona, combined with his extraordinary technical ability, earned him three Ballon d'Or awards. The Netherlands team of 1974, which he captained to the World Cup final, is considered one of the greatest international teams never to win the trophy.
