American wide receiver who became the first player since 2005 to win the NFL receiving Triple Crown, leading the Rams to Super Bowl LVI victory in 2021.
Born in Yakima, Washington in 1993, Cooper Douglas Kupp emerged from a football family with deep roots in the sport. His grandfather, Jake Kupp, played professionally, while his father, Craig Kupp, quarterbacked at Pacific Lutheran University. Kupp starred at Eastern Washington University, where he set numerous NCAA FCS records and won the Walter Payton Award as the top player in the division in 2015. The Los Angeles Rams selected Kupp in the third round (69th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, a pick that proved exceptional value. He established himself immediately as a reliable target for quarterback Jared Goff, posting over 1,100 receiving yards in both 2018 and 2019 before suffering a torn ACL that ended his 2018 season prematurely. When Sean McVay's offense evolved with Matthew Stafford's arrival in 2021, Kupp flourished in ways few anticipated. The 2021 season marked Kupp's historic peak. He achieved the receiving Triple Crown, leading the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16) — becoming the first player since Jerry Rice in 1990 to accomplish this feat. His performance earned him NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors and proved instrumental in the Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, where he caught eight passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Persistent injuries to his ankle and hamstring significantly impacted his 2022 and 2023 campaigns, limiting his availability and effectiveness. Kupp's defining characteristic remains his exceptional route-running precision and football intelligence. His ability to find soft spots in coverage and create separation through technique rather than pure athleticism has drawn comparisons to elite slot receivers throughout NFL history. His 2021 season stands as one of the greatest individual receiving performances in modern football, cementing his reputation as one of the most technically proficient wide receivers of his generation. Released by the Rams in the 2025 offseason, Kupp signed with divisional rivals Seattle and led the Seahawks in receiving in Super Bowl LX with six catches for 61 yards, adding a second Super Bowl ring to the MVP-winning triumph he achieved with Los Angeles in Super Bowl LVI.
