Camille Abily was the creative engine of Lyon's era-defining dominance of European women's football, a two-footed attacking midfielder whose vision and composure anchored five UEFA Women's Champions League triumphs. She was the first player to win the UNFP Female Player of the Year award in consecutive seasons, in 2006 and 2007, and spent a season in the United States with the Los Angeles Sol and FC Gold Pride before returning to Lyon for the second, decade-long spell that defined her career. Capped 183 times by France, a national record for many years, she helped Les Bleues reach a best-ever fourth-place finish at the 2011 World Cup. Since retiring in 2018 she has built a coaching career, joining Lyon's staff before becoming Chelsea's assistant manager in 2024.
