Blake Austin Griffin was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1989. Los Angeles Clippers selected him first overall in the 2009 NBA Draft. He missed his entire first season with a knee injury, then won the Rookie of the Year award in 2011. He won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2011 with his dunk over a car. He was selected to six All-Star games. He averaged 21.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game across his career. He was the centrepiece of the Lob City era at the Clippers alongside Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan — a team whose high-flying, dunk-heavy style became the defining highlight reel of its era. His development into a legitimate three-point shooter and perimeter player in his mid-career at Detroit was one of the more impressive transformations in recent NBA history. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2018 and made the All-Star game in his first season there. Persistent knee issues curtailed his effectiveness in his later years. He retired in 2023. He became a prominent entertainment figure and podcast host after leaving the game.
