Benjamin Roy Armstrong Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1967. Chicago Bulls selected him 18th overall in the 1989 NBA Draft from the University of Iowa. His 11-season career produced three NBA championships (1991, 1992, 1993) alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, and one All-Star appearance in 1994. He scored 22 points in the championship-clinching Game 5 of the 1993 Finals against Phoenix — his finest performance in a Bulls uniform. He averaged 10.7 points across his career. After the first Bulls retirement of Michael Jordan following the 1993 championship, Armstrong became a starting point guard and was selected to the All-Star game in 1994 — demonstrating genuine talent beyond his role player status with Chicago. He was later the subject of one of the most creative expansion draft selections when the Toronto Raptors selected him in the 1995 expansion draft despite the Bulls wanting to keep him, creating a dispute that attracted significant league attention.
