Sweetness — one of the most complete players in NFL history, whose 16,726 rushing yards, work ethic and extraordinary character made him the NFL's most beloved player of the 1980s.

Walter Payton — "Sweetness" — was the most complete running back of his era and one of the finest players in NFL history. He rushed for 16,726 yards across 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears, setting the NFL record that stood until Emmitt Smith. His famous training regimes — running up the notorious "hill" in Arlington Heights — became legend. He won Super Bowl XX and was universally admired for his character on and off the field.

His off-season training — running sprints up a steep hill in all weathers — became one of football's most legendary conditioning regimes.
