Pistol Pete — the most gifted ball-handler in basketball history, whose college scoring record of 3,667 points was achieved without a shot clock or three-point line.

Pete Maravich scored 3,667 points in college — a record that has never been threatened — achieved without a shot clock, three-point line or freshmen eligibility. His basketball IQ and creative ball-handling were decades ahead of their time. He averaged 44.2 points per game at LSU. He died of a heart defect at 40 while playing a casual game of basketball. He had predicted in an interview years earlier that he would not live to be an old man.

His college scoring average of 44.2 points per game — without a shot clock or three-point line — is the most remarkable individual scoring achievement in basketball history.
