The greatest triple jumper in history — Jonathan Edwards' world record of 18.29m set at the 1995 World Championships has stood for nearly 30 years.
Jonathan Edwards holds the world record in the triple jump with 18.29m — set at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg during one of the most extraordinary single sessions of field event jumping in history. He jumped 18.16m and then 18.29m in the same competition. He won Olympic gold at Sydney 2000 and is the only man to have exceeded 18 metres outdoors.
He set two world records in the same competition in 1995 — jumping 18.16m and then 18.29m consecutively — a feat never remotely replicated in the event.
